1st Sunday in Advent

Advent: Jesus the King comes to us!

Every Sunday before the Old Testament reading the particular

day of the church year is announced. Today it was said that it

is the First Sunday in Advent. This marks a new year that the

world knows nothing about or really cares about for that

matter. Advent is the season in which we prepare for the

coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, as the Holy Infant in the

manger, as the Giver of heavenly gifts in the Divine Service, and as the Triumphant King

who will come again in great glory on the Last Day. Soon we shall celebrate the blessed

birth of the Messiah, but not yet. For now, we patiently prepare and ponder.
