1st Sunday in Lent

“All Satan has is lies.”

Showing Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and their glory, Satan said, “All these I will give you

if you will fall down and worship me.” Satan’s offer appeared so innocent and simple for Jesus to

find relief from hunger and temptation. One bow and Satan would give Jesus the world. But the

world was what Jesus was already after. It is what He came to redeem. Christ was tempted in

every way we are. Satan offers Jesus immediate success without the cross. Now he held

prosperity and victory before His face without the pain of the cross. He was, however, offering

earthly kingdoms to Jesus, but Jesus came to give us a heavenly one.
